“Confidence”
Once upon a time, in a cosy little town called Londonville, there lived a little girl named Lily.
Now, Lily was as shy as a fluffy bunny hiding in her burrow! She loved to watch other children play and have fun, but when it came to joining in, she'd hide behind her Mum’s legs, peeking out with big blue, shy eyes. Too afraid to go over and join them.
One sunny day, Lily’s Mummy signed her up for a super duper fun sports club called Try Time Kids’ Rugby. Lily was excited but also quite nervous.
When they arrived at the park, she clung tightly to her Mummy's hand, she was a little scared. A smiling, happy chappy called Coach Freddie came over and said a big Hello! He could see that Lily was feeling a bit unsure.
"Hey there, Lily!” he said. “We're going to have the best time today, are you ready?!" and he gave Lily a cheeky little wink to make her feel better.
Lily wasn’t sure and she certainly wasn’t ready to let go of her Mummy’s hand. Not yet!
As the games started and the other children started running around, Lily stayed close to her Mummy, feeling very unsure. Coach Freddie was determined to help her feel at ease so he brought out colourful cones and started a game of Catch The Magic Unicorn. He was sure Lily would enjoy that!!
It did look like a lot of fun and all the other children were laughing and running around after Coach Freddie! Slowly, Lily let go of her Mummy's hand and cautiously joined in.
To her surprise, Lily found herself giggling and actually having fun! She loved running between the cones, kicking the ball and she even managed to catch Coach Freddie, I mean, the Magic Unicorn!! Coach Freddie encouraged her every step of the way, blowing his whistle and making her laugh. She actually had a really good time!
Week after week, Lily’s confidence grew like a sunflower reaching for the sky. She started looking forward to the weekend, when she could see all the coaches and all of her new friends! She even learned to pass the ball into the bucket and she played lots of new games like Dinosaur Hunter and Alien Attack!
At school, during playtime, Lily started making up games for everyone to play. She showed all her friends how to dodge around the pretend monsters, how to scoop up a ball like a big ice cream and she even taught them all to work as a team!
Everyone loves playing with Lily!
At the weekend, Lily dashes across the park to Try Time, her smile as bright as a rainbow. She loves learning all the new games and she knows that she’ll be able to teach them to her friends back at school!
Lily still gets nervous about things from time to time but she knows it's a lot more fun to have a go, than it is to stand behind Mummy's legs!!
Just give it a go!!
